Permanent makeup, also called micropigmentation, is generally used around the eyes (eyeliner and eye shadow), the brows, the cheeks and the lips. All permanent makeup is done by implanting pigment under the skin with a technique exactly like tattooing, except that tattoo artists use ink and reputable permanent makeup artists use pigment. What’s the difference? Ink is clear like coffee, but the pigment has particulate in them, tiny pieces 4-6 microns in size. When pigments are implanted, they do not migrate or spread as inks can do. If you’ve ever seen people with pigment that appears to have dripped around the eyes or extended into the wrinkles around the lips, this is what can happen when ink is used instead of pigment.
Additional ways to use Permanent Makeup
For anyone who has had breast removal with subsequent reconstruction, a nipple and areola can literally be created with pigment. According to those who have had this done, it looks absolutely real. Scar camouflage can be accomplished by applying flesh-colored pigment to scars to make them nearly invisible.
